COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is aimed at students and researchers in the Social Sciences and Humanities
who rely on discourse to explain social, political, cultural and historical phenomena and problems. The course explores the textual structures of discourse, but special emphasis will be placed on the social, cognitive, and historical dimensions of discursive practices. Likewise, the course is critical in nature; that is, it explains how discourse analysis is an essential tool to show and denounce problems such as the discursive reproduction of racism, sexism, or social injustice.
The course consists of 16 hours of class. You may register for the entire course or by thematic blocks. Classes will be online.
The course will be taught by Dr. César Rojo and includes a final live session with a lecture given by Prof. Dr. Teun van Dijk.
PROGRAM:
All classes will be held on Saturdays, from 16:00 a 18:00 (Central European Time), with exception to the last class with Teun van Dijk with will be held on a Friday.
